Here’s something you don’t see everyday: me promoting my music on tumblr. I figure with all the chaos of 2020, some of us might need some peace and quiet, even just for a little bit. Enjoy everybody!
there’s always a lot of talk about how being gay or trans is a “sin.” and a lot of people have reclaimed this, have joked about their “sin,” have held it up yourself so it can’t be held against you.
but to all of the religious queers, the ones trying to find or create a home in themselves where their identity and their religion don’t contradict… i see you. i’ve been you, i am you, i love you.
your orientation is not a sin.
your gender is not a sin.
you are not sinful or wrong or bad just for being who you are.
your identity does not contradict your religion.
you are beautifully and wonderfully made, just as you are.
you are loved by your creator, just as you are.
nobody can take any of that away from you.
[ please do not tag or censor my use of the word queer. do not derail this post by talking about how much religion sucks. ]
I’m sorry friends, but “just google it” is no longer viable advice. What are we even telling people to do anymore, go try to google useful info and the first three pages are just ads for products that might be the exact opposite of what the person is trying to find but The Algorithm thinks the words are related enough? And if it’s not ads it’s just sponsored websites filled with listicles, just pages and pages of “TOP FIFTEEN [thing you googled] IMAGINED AS DISNEY PRINCESSES” like… what are we even doing anymore, google? I can no longer use you as shorthand for people doing real and actual helpful research on their own.
– https://search.marginalia.nu/ Search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and promotes websites that aren’t usually at the top of the list.
– https://www.worldcat.org/ Search engine for items in libraries (books, but also maps, articles, sound recordings, theses, etc.)
– https://scholar.google.com/ Search engine for scientific papers, reviews, etc. It’s still google, but a lot better than the normal search engine counterpart.
– https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_search_engines A list of search engines sorted by subject, area, and more. If you’re searching on a specific area, it might be worth checking if there is one focused on that area.
Also, P.S.: Please stop using Google, and start using more privacy focused search engines, like DuckDuckGo or SearchX (opensource; personally haven’t used it yet, but it looks promising for privacy-focused users)

To expand on the crumbling of the patriarchal edifice of the family.
If society agrees that children can know themselves, and have a right to self determination…. Everything else that Conservatives argue they have a right to exert over children crumbles. As just two examples….
ALL corporal punishment rightfully becomes recognised for the assault it is.
Failure to appropriately consider the wishes of children in medical care and provide information in an age appropriate way is recognised as child abuse and malpractice.
Children are entire people, they deserve all of the rights, privileges and protections afforded to adults.
In case anyone actually cares about this issue, some good news: 227 migrants were rescued off the Canary Islands and 294 migrants were rescued off the coast of Italy yesterday/today.
